Mr. Winter has been lead counsel in numerous patent, trademark and copyright litigations and practices in a wide variety of technologies including mechanical, computer and chemical arts. Mr. Winter has been lead counsel in both bench and jury trials, selected juries, and has successfully defended against patent assertion entities and obtained multi-million dollar jury verdicts. He has successfully argued appeals in the Federal Circuit on computer and mechanical patents and has successfully argued both second and ninth circuit cases relating to trademarks and copyrights.
In the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Mr. Winter has been lead counsel in Patent Office interparty proceedings and multiple patent reexamination and inter-partes review proceedings. In addition, he handles numerous trademark oppositions and cancellation proceedings.
Mr. Winter currently manages large international portfolios of patents and trademarks for publically traded companies and other substantial entities. He prosecutes patent and trademark applications in the United States and worldwide.
In addition to managing large portfolios, Mr. Winter regularly consults with buyers, sellers and their attorneys on the intellectual property concerns of merger and acquisition deals. Mr. Winter’s team at SSJR have developed a proprietary software system that streamlines the process of transferring title of intellectual property on a worldwide basis in M&A deals.
He is a past President of the Connecticut Patent Law Association.
